On Jan. 26, 2021, Dr. Sandhya Ravi and Prasad Ravi, CEO of Pleasant Pediatrics, were awarded 1A and 1B priority vaccination approval to begin administering COVID-19 vaccinations to adults 75 years and older.
They were elated by the news, and a plan of action was quickly put into place.
Prasad set up a scheduling link for those that qualified. He was aware of the difficulty when registering for the state PODs, so he created a link for physicians to refer patients. Once the referral was received, the patient was contacted by a Pleasant Pediatrics staff member, who helped them schedule and then register on the state site. This creative approach enabled those without computer access to become vaccinated.
They decided to mimic the drive-up workflow used by larger PODs to decrease the risk of contamination and maintain a timely approach. Most patients are in and out within 30 minutes.
Their quick action and coordinated efforts enabled the practice to begin giving vaccinations within four hours of receipt of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Their efforts have paid off, and the rewards have been overwhelming. “The appreciation expressed by the vaccine recipients is unbelievable,” says Dr. Ravi, “some even have tears of gratitude after receiving the immunization.”
Pleasant Pediatrics started giving vaccines on Jan. 26, 2021, and they have since delivered over 13,000 vaccines. The staff has worked many hours of overtime, and the clinic has stayed open weekends to meet the vaccination clinic’s demands.
Drs. Ravi and Prasad express, there have been challenges with sleepless nights, but the rewards far outweigh the stress.
Dr. Ravi is proud of her staff and their dedication. She states, “the Pandemic has been stressful on all of us, but it is so rewarding to be moving forward and helping those in need.”
